Tex Schramm died on July 15, 2003, at age 83. He was born in 1920 and raised in San Gabriel, California. He went to Alhambra High School. He later attended the University of Texas. Schramm began his career in journalism and joined the Los Angeles Rams in 1947. In 1960, he became the first president and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys. He led the team for nearly 30 years. Schramm helped establish key parts of NFL operations. He supported instant replay, scouting reforms, and television innovations. He also played a role in creating the Super Bowl and the AFL-NFL merger. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991. His early years in San Gabriel helped shape the direction of his life and work in football.
